Rush to the airport
During a discussion of Love Island on Good Morning Britain, Richard Madeley declared he 'couldn't care less' about the contestants. The 66-year-old presenter was co-hosting the show with Charlotte Hawkins when she received a text regarding the series' first confirmed contestant. While Charlotte read aloud Paige Thorne being the first contestant, Madeley said, as quoted by The Mirror:
I'm sure she's a lovely person but I couldn't care less.
As the show reveals different islanders every day, TV presented Richard Arnold introduced three Love Island cast favourites including Gemma Owen.The Sun reported that Madeley then commented:
If there’s ever a good reason to join a queue out of the airport and get out of the country, that is it.
Madeley buried his head in his hands as the Love Island logo dominated the screen behind their desk.
Not a fan
Charlotte, who was overjoyed, announced that she was a fan and had the honour of revealing the first singleton to enter the villa. After she informed him that the show will have the entire country gripped, he ended the segment by saying:
Love Island kicks off a week today on ITV too, and we're going to be revealing the new islanders throughout the morning here on ITV. You lucky people.
Informing him that it is back with a bang, Madeley groaned and finally said:
Yeah, here we go… Sorry, I can't summon up the enthusiasm. I know loads of you love Love Island…
