‘I know my body’s capacity’
The tennis star announced through a letter shared on his Twitter page that the Laver Cup will be his final tennis competition. Indeed Federer has been having ongoing knee problems for the past three years as reported by The Guardian.
In his letter, the tennis legend goes on to explain that even though he loves the sport, he needs to listen to his body, which is telling him to stop:
I also know my body’s capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear.
Despite surgeries and recovery, Federer was unable to return to his old form and in the past few years has played fewer matches. He has now made the decision to end entirely:
Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt, and now I must recognise when it is time to end my competitive career.
