The past year has been quite challenging for Ruth Langsford. Indeed, the Loose Women star has announced she was separating from fellow presenter Eamonn Holmes, after more than 14 years together. This is sadly not the most pressing matter for the 64-year-old presenter, as she is also looking after her 93-year-old mother, who suffered a nasty fall last year. Ruth Langsford also lost her father to Alzheimer's a few years ago.

Speaking of the disease, she recently opened up about how she feels knowing she might have a high risk of developing it later.

Ruth Langsford reveals both her parents struggled with Alzheimer's

The Loose Women star recently gave an intimate interview to the Woman and Home magazine, during which she opened up about the impact Alzheimer's disease has had on her family. She explained how terrified she is of the disease, especially knowing how painful it can be not only for you, but also for your loved-ones. Ruth Langsford revealed she does not want to take a test to find out if she is more at risk of developing the disease, as there is no treatment anyway. She said:

I'm a bit 'head in the sand' about Alzheimer's. Both my parents have had it, I know what it entails and it horrifies me. There's a test you can do to see if you're more likely to get it, but, because there's no medication to treat it, I'd rather not know. When I have senior moments, as people call them, I panic. Then I let it go, because I can't bear to think about that.

A source close to the TV presenter claims she is more afraid now she has split from Eamonn Holmes. The source said, as per OK! Magazine:

Ruth looks after her mum, so she's very aware of Alzheimer's, but it is scary for her. She knows it runs in families and doesn't want it to happen to her. It is at the back of her mind. She has been fearing more for her health, in that sense, since the split.

She is caring for her 93-year-old mother

Ruth Langsford lost her father to Alzheimer's disease in 2012, after a long battle. Sadly, her mother, Joan, also suffers from the same disease, and she had to be hospitalised just before Christmas in 2024 after she had a nasty fall and broke her hip.

To reassure her fans (and Joan's) after they noticed her mother had not appeared on her videos in a while, Ruth Langsford took to her Instagram a few weeks after her mother underwent hip-replacement surgery. The TV presenter shared a clip of her mother smiling and dancing, immediately reassuring everyone on her mother's state of health. She wrote:

As you can see she’s recovered well after a hip replacement op but I wasn’t able to get her in and out of the car before today….it’s wonderful to have her here again (and I get all the veg for our roast peeled of course!) She’s an incredible woman and I hope I’ll still be singing and dancing in the kitchen when I’m 92!!
