It’s with deep heartbreak that today I’m sharing the news that my beautiful daughter Sarah has sadly passed away. Many of you will know of Sarah’s battle with cancer and that she fought so strongly from her diagnosis until her last day. She slipped away peacefully this morning.
She continued:
I’d like to thank everyone for their kind support over the past year. It meant the world to Sarah and it gave her great strength and comfort to know she was loved. I know she won’t want to be remembered for her fight against this terrible disease—he was a bright shining star and I hope that’s how she can be remembered instead. – Marie x
Sarah Harding
Sarah was of course best known for being part of iconic girl band Girls Aloud. Formed on Popstars: The Rivals, the group went on to achieve incredible chart success with a string of 20 consecutive UK top 10 singles including 'Sound of the Underground', 'Love Machine' and 'The Promise.'
After Girls Aloud split, Sarah found success as an actress, starring in the St. Trinian’s films, Coronation Street and BBC drama Freefall. In 2017, she also won the 20th series of Celebrity Big Brother. In the final year of her life, Sarah released a memoir entitled Hear Me Out and a solo single called 'Wear It Like A Crown,' which reached number 1 on iTunes.
Raising awareness
In her autobiography, Sarah encouraged everyone to check their breasts regularly and go to a doctor with any concerns. She wrote:
Writing about my cancer, I found myself thinking, ‘Do I want everyone to know this?’ I kept thinking that if there was a chance just one person who read my story decided to get checked and was treated in time, then it was worth it.
