CELEBRITY DEATHS OF 2024

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, Shannen Doherty documented most of her cancer journey on Instagram. From shaving her head and the horrors of chemo to a miraculous recovery and remission in April 2017. In 2019, the cancer returned as she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer that had spread to her brain and bones. The diagnosis led her to sell her belongings. Unfortunately, despite the several rounds of chemotherapy, Shannen Doherty passed away on 13 July.

Before passing away, the actress was already preparing for her final days—one of her last moves included finalising her divorce from Kurt Iswarienko.

Shannen Doherty's final act

The actress was married to Iswarienko for 11 years until 2023 when she filed for a divorce. There had been rumours that Kurt cheated on her but sources close to the photographer revealed that they had been living separate lives for over two years and he was open about him starting a new relationship, reports ET Online.

According to People, who obtained court documents, Doherty had agreed to the 'default or uncontested dissolution of their marriage'.

Moroever, she had also decided to waive spousal support a day before she died, on July 12.

This comes just a few weeks after the actress claimed that her ex-husband was 'hoping that she dies' in order to avoid paying alimony.

Shannen Doherty claimed Kurt Iswarienko is waiting for her to die

Indeed, in June Doherty claimed that her ex-husband was trying to prolong the divorce settlement and hoping she dies soon so that he doesn’t have to pay her. Documents obtained by People Magazine revealed that Doherty had still not received many of her requests for financial information regarding Iswarienko’s earnings.

The 53-year-old believed that Iswarienko was delaying the divorce process as he knew Doherty was progressively getting sick from her terminal cancer. She stated in documents:

It is simply not right that Kurt be permitted to prolong our divorce in hopes that I die before he is required to pay me while he continues to live his life and shirk his responsibilities to his dying wife of more than 11 years.

The Let’s Be Clearpodcast host was requesting $15,434 per month in spousal support from the photographer. She added that she would soon lose her SAG health insurance from not working and her Charmed residuals are decreasing. Meanwhile, Iswarienko’s lawyers responded to claims at the time and said:

Kurt is not ‘simply wait[ing] for Shannen to die. He wants the best for Shannen and he wants both of them to be able to put this case behind them and move forward.

It seems that prior to her death, Shannen Doherty decided to end the story of their relationship on good terms with this final act.

So far, the photographer has not publicly said anything about her passing or the finalisation of their divorce. However, People has reported that he also signed the document on 13 July, the same day she passed away.
