Benidorm is coming back.

With her sharp suits and sharper tongue, Joyce became a fan-favourite from the moment she stepped into the series in 2012. Since Benidorm left our screens in 2018, Hewson’s life has taken many twists and turns—on and off the screen. Here's a look at what Sherrie Hewson has been up to.

Sherrie Hewson’s TV journey after Benidorm

After her role as Joyce Temple-Savage came to an end in 2018, Sherrie Hewson didn’t disappear from our screens.

According to OK! Magazine, Hewson’s acting credits span decades. She made her screen debut in Z Cars, followed by appearances in The Moonstone and Within These Walls. She gained major recognition in 1993 when she joined Coronation Street as Maureen Webster. She later took on the role of receptionist Virginia Raven in Crossroads (2001).

She also took part in several reality shows, such as Celebrity MasterChef, Dickinson’s Real Deal, and Celebrity Big Brother—whose latest season has a bombshell line-up, where she finished in sixth place back in 2016.

And in 2023, she stripped off for a good cause on ITV’s The Real Full Monty, honouring her late brother Brett Hutchinson, who sadly passed away in 2020.

According to The Sun, she returned to familiar ground by joining Hollyoaks in 2024, adding another iconic British soap to her impressive resume. This came after years of appearances on shows like Loose Women, where she was a panellist from 2003 to 2017. Her acting career has been a constant thread, even through life’s upheavals.

Sherrie Hewson’s life off-screen

Hewson's turbulent love life

Sherrie Hewson's off-screen life has been filled with emotional ups and downs. She was married to Ken Boyd for 22 years before discovering he had cheated on her. The couple split in 2001 and finalised their divorce in 2011. She said:

No one needs a man to feel fulfilled or worthwhile in life — you have yourself.

In 2012, Sherrie began dating Richard, a property developer 12 years younger than her, reports Mirror. She recalled their first meeting in a Leeds bar, saying:

I feel like a teenager again. It's lovely, fun and a huge compliment that he likes me.

Despite their shared love for horse riding and the theatre, the relationship eventually ended.

Not long after, she met Michael, a man 20 years her junior, during the filming of Benidorm in a tapas bar. By 2013, she had discovered that Michael was married with children. Speaking to Daily Mail, she said:

It’s been a tough few months. I feel battered and bruised, physically and emotionally.
I thought I'd found a man I could fall in love with but he was a liar and a cheat. I'm not sure my disastrous love life can ever be mended.

Her family

Sherrie shares a daughter, Keeley, with Ken Boyd, and has three grandchildren: Oliver, Molly and Rosie. Despite living alone, she sees her daughter and grandchildren daily and describes them as her source of joy:

Grandchildren give me the joy and love, and make my heart beat every day.

She also suffered the loss of her brother Brett to a brain tumour in 2020. This tragic event deeply affected her, and she later joined The Real Full Monty in his honour.

During the pandemic, Sherrie admitted to struggling with alcohol and loneliness. She told The Sun:

I’ve totally tried to rein my drinking in. I wasn’t a person who could drink a whole bottle of wine — because I’d be sick.
But I had got to the point where I could drink a whole bottle — it became easy, and I would think, ‘Uh oh’.

Adding:

I have to discipline myself, and it’s not because I have a drinking problem — it’s that loneliness.

Despite everything, she kept going thanks to her online panel show Wonderbirds, which she co-hosts. She shared:

Wonderbirds has saved my life.
We do three episodes a week and everybody loves it. That’s kept me stable because I’ve had to get out of the house and put my make-up on.

How is Sherri Hewson's health?

Sherri's life has surely not been easy, but despite reaching the age of 74, she is thriving and active. In good health, the only struggle she's revealed she had to deal with is her hearing loss. It was a surprising diagnosis followed a routine eye test, as shared by OK! Magazine. She now wears hearing aids in both ears.

She told The Sunday People:

I couldn’t believe the difference. I can hear everything now.
I’m only wearing them at home at the moment. I tried them outdoors but the traffic was too loud. It was a shock.
