It seems that the rapper is actually there for work, and he is earning quite a lot of money for his hilarious appearances, unlike athletes from these countries.
Snoop Dogg: An Olympic torch bearer
Snoop Dogg took his fans by surprise when he was one of the final bearers of the Olympic torch. The fact that the 52-year-old, who is considered the unofficial mascot for the USA, was allowed to carry the torch means a lot to him. He said at a press event shortly before the big moment:
I look at this as a prestigious honor and something I truly respect. I would have never dreamed of nothing like this.
I'm going to be on my best behavior. I'm going to be on my best athleticism. I'll be able to breathe slow to walk fast and hold the torch with a smile on my face, because I realize how prestigious this event is.
He continued his Olympic journey with several other acts, including taking swimming classes with the one and only Micheal Phelps, and doing commentary for events like badminton and rugby. He has also been going viral for his many looks, including wearing a full riding gear during the dressage.
Snoop Dogg's massive deal with NBC
Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., which is Snoop Dogg's real name, grew up with the games and is a big fan. However, that wasn't the only reason he came to the city of love. He has a huge deal with NBC News and works alongside Mike Tirico as a commentator and reporter. He has quite a few assignments, and they're not badly paid at all.
... and is set to earn several million in the process
New reports have given insight into how much the artist could be getting paid. As per the Daily Mail, Snoop Dogg could be getting paid around £393K per day, and that's not including expenses—at least that's what venture capitalist Henry McNamara claims he heard from an NBC executive.
Moreover, German media BILD apparently got insider scoop as an NBC employee divulged that he could receive £11.78 million or $15 million for the Games. He also allegedly has a TV ratings bonus in his contract. No wonder Snoop Dogg is giving his all in the Olympics!
NBC's lucrative deal with Snoop Dogg for the 2024 Games hasn't been spun out of thin air either. In 2021, he and Kevin Hart provided commentary for the Tokyo Olympics, which was a huge success as well. They were streaming on Peacock and garnered tens of millions of views for NBC. Molly Solomon, executive producer and president of NBC's Olympics production, has said that that is what got him a spot as a 'Special Correspondent in Paris.' She added:
We don't know what the heck is going to happen every day, but we know he will add his unique perspective to our re-imagined Olympic primetime show.
