Before his death in 2011, the founder of Apple left himself a message. The message was leaked and it was revealed that Jobs had sent himself an email on September 2, 2010, with some thought-provoking words. Here’s what the tech legend wrote to himself.
Steve Jobs’ message to himself
As reported by LadBible, Steve Jobs wrote himself an email on September 2, 2010, at 11:08 pm. In his email, the father of four writes about the things he consumes but does not make or ‘invent’ himself.
Indeed, Jobs mentions not growing the food he eats, not making his own clothes and speaking a language he ‘did not invent or refine’.
I grow little of the food I eat, and of the little I do grow I did not breed or perfect the seeds. I do not make any of my own clothing. I speak a language I did not invent or refine.
I did not discover the mathematics I use. I am protected by freedoms and laws I did not conceive of or legislate, and do not enforce or adjudicate. I am moved by music I did not create myself. When I needed medical attention, I was helpless to help myself survive. I did not invent the transistor, the microprocessor, object oriented programming, or most of the technology I work with.
Jobs goes on to add that he ‘loves and admires’ humankind and that he is ‘dependent’ on them for his life:
I love and admire my species, living and dead, and am totally dependent on them for my life and well being.
Naturally, the email was signed with the classic ‘Sent from my iPad’.
What was Steve Jobs’ cause of death?
As per LadBible, Steve Jobs was diagnosed with cancer in 2003. He developed a rare form of pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer (pNET). In 2009, Jobs received a liver transplant. Sadly, the Apple founder died of respiratory arrest, a consequence of the metastasis of his pancreatic neuroendocrine tumour, as per NeuroEndocrine Cancer Australia.
Due to his fame, Steve Jobs being diagnosed with pNET helped raise awareness for the disease. This meant that more focus was put on the disease and increasing the research, which in turn, led to better diagnostic methods. Treatments for patients with pNETs improved as well.
