However, his latest battle wasn’t on the football field but in the skies, as a medical crisis forced his transatlantic flight to make an emergency landing. Fans across the footballing world have been eager for updates on the former Nottingham Forest and England defender’s condition.

What happened to Stuart Pearce? Everything we know of his health scare

As reported by Sky News, Stuart Pearce suffered a medical emergency while flying from Las Vegas to London Heathrow on 2 March. The 62-year-old, who had been in the US to watch the Wigan Warriors take on Warrington Wolves in a rugby league clash, became unwell mid-flight. The Virgin Atlantic aircraft carrying Pearce and 255 passengers had to be diverted to St John’s International Airport in Canada, causing a six-hour delay to the flight’s arrival in London.

During the flight, Pearce reportedly began sweating profusely and experiencing acute pain, prompting immediate first aid intervention. His partner was left watching helplessly as the drama unfolded in the air. Upon landing in Canada, he was given 24/7 medical care to monitor his condition.

While the exact details of Pearce’s health condition weren’t disclosed, it was clear that the situation was serious enough to warrant urgent medical attention.

Fans and football communities quickly rallied around the legendary defender. During Nottingham Forest’s game against Manchester City, a message reading ‘Get Well Soon Stuart’ was displayed on the big screen. Fans also paid tribute with a round of applause in the third minute, a nod to his iconic number three shirt.

What is Stuart Peacre’s latest health update?

According to The Sun, Pearce has now been discharged from the hospital in Canada after spending eight days under medical supervision. His transatlantic health scare at 30,000 feet had fans worried, but the former England international is finally on his way home.

TalkSPORT commentator Sam Matterface, a colleague of Pearce, provided some insight into his condition, saying:

I spoke to him yesterday, he's in great spirits. He isn't 100%, that is definitely the case, but he is in the right place, he is in the hospital. They are dealing with it.

Pearce, known for his resilience on and off the pitch, was reportedly frustrated from being sick and missing key events. Matterface spoke to Pearcee ahead of Forest's game against Man City and he stated during the game:

He is a little bit disappointed about not being here today, he was most frustrated about that.
He actually said to me, 'I have got so much I had to cancel. Some great games, and Mumford & Sons are playing on Wednesday night and I can't go now'.

The Three Lions icon is now planning to return home after getting a green signal from the doctors.

What has Stuart Peacre been up to these days?

Despite the recent health setback, Pearce remains as active and adventurous as ever. Pearce’s last official role in football was as First Team Coach at West Ham United. According to WHUFC.com, he stepped down from his position in May 2022.

During his two years as part of David Moyes’ coaching team, Pearce played a significant role in helping West Ham secure consecutive top-seven Premier League finishes and European qualification, working closely with key coaching staff members.

Reflecting on his departure, Pearce said:

It is with a heavy heart that I have made this decision to leave West Ham United. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work at the Club over the past two years, but I have decided that now is the right time to step away and pursue other opportunities and challenges.

Pearce initially joined West Ham's coaching staff in 2017 as one of David Moyes’ assistants before returning for a second spell ahead of the 2020/21 season. West Ham manager David Moyes praised Pearce’s contributions, saying:

We thank Stuart for his hard work and dedication over the past two years. He has been a great help to myself and the team, and a popular figure who we will miss around the training ground. On behalf of all of the players and staff, I wish him every success in the future.

More recently, the former defender has spent his post-football years co-commentating for TalkSPORT and working as a motivational and after-dinner speaker, as reported by The Telegraph.

His love for travel has taken him to places well beyond the usual footballer hotspots.

Pearce has recently been on a 17-day trekking expedition across Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya, where he observed mountain gorillas and embraced the rugged outdoors. Next on his list? Japan, a destination he has long wanted to visit, followed by a tour of Southeast Asia, including Vietnam and Laos.
