They met in his music video
Enrique and Anna Kournikova met back in 2001 when she featured in the singer’s music video for Escape. The pair were filmed in steamy scenes in various places. The pair hit it off and announced their relationship to the public in the August of the following year.
Enrique admitted to MTV’s Making the Video that he was a fan of Kournikova as a tennis player but had never met before:
I’m sure a lot of guys want to meet her. I’m one of them,
She’s beautiful, talented, a great tennis player, and I’m sure she’s going to be great in the video.
In a ‘committed’ relationship
The couple has been together ever since. Enrique and Anna have welcomed three children into this world, twins Nicholas and Lucy, 4, and Mary, 2. Despite being together for 20 years, the couple isn’t married and it doesn’t seem like they will any time soon.
They both prefer to keep their private life out of the public eye. In 2014 in an interview, Enrique said:
When I go home, I want to make sure that whatever goes on in my house, it's just for me and my loved ones and I need that.
The reason the pair isn’t married is that they don’t see the need to. They have both said that they are happy and in a committed relationship and a marriage certificate won’t change that.
Indeed when asked about it, Anna Kournikova said:
It isn’t important to me. I’m in a happy relationship – that’s all that matters,
I believe in commitment. I believe in being open and trusting each other and respecting each other completely.
Similarly, Enrique told the Parade Magazine:
Maybe it’s because I come from divorced parents, but I don’t think you love someone more because of a piece of paper,
