In the late 1980s, current Minnesota Governor and vice presidential candidate Tim Walz spent time in China as part of an educational program, teaching English in Foshan. Walz’s time in China has been controversial due to misleading statements about his presence during the Tiananmen Square protests. While he originally claimed to have witnessed the historic event, it was later revealed he arrived in August 1989, months after the protests ended.

In recent months, many controversies have stirred up against Tim Walz, including a conspiracy about his dog.
However, a more personal controversy is now taking the spotlight. Jenna Wang, the daughter of a high-ranking Chinese Communist Party official, claims to have had an intimate relationship with Walz during his time in China.
Tim Walz’s ‘secret’ affair with daughter of top Chinese Communist
Jenna Wang, now 59, alleges that her romance with Walz - who now has a wife and kids - began soon after they met at one of his lectures. Wang told MailOnline that Walz was 25 at that time and started wooing her by complimenting her beauty and fluency in English. Wang told the publication:
My colleagues couldn't speak whole sentences but Tim told me that if he closed his eyes and listened it was like being back in America.
According to her, their love grew behind closed doors as they sipped tea and listened to George Michael's Careless Whisper. The two spent nights together in Walz’s modest accommodation at No. 1 High School in Foshan. She said:
Tim was very passionate and very romantic. I can still remember dancing with him to our favorite song, Careless Whisper.
The fact we couldn't touch or kiss in public just made it all the more exciting and intense when we were finally alone.
We were deeply in love and I wanted to marry him and start a family. When it didn't happen, I felt very unhappy and sad. Tim's behavior was very selfish.
Wang said that she and Walz couldn’t indulge in public displays of affection as Wang’s father was a high-ranking figure in the Chinese Communist Party. She claimed that her father would disown her for fraternizing with a westerner. She said:
My father would have been very, very angry and sad if he had found out.
Despite all of this, Wang dreamt of a marriage with him. Reportedly, Walz used to shower her with gifts from Hong Kong, including jeans, sunglasses and jewelry but never proposed.
Walz accused Wang of wanting a ‘US passport’ more than a ‘marriage’
During the summer when Walz returned to Nebraska, he wrote her letters describing his life in America. The future Minnesota governor allegedly led her to believe they had a future together. In 1992, she quit her teaching job, expecting to begin a new life with Walz.
However, their relationship soured during a ten-day trip through South China. Wang confronted him about his future plans. Wang then reveals that Walz suggested she wanted a ‘US passport’ more than a marriage. She shared:
This was very offensive. I said to him that it is both or nothing. I wasn't giving up my life and my position to move to Nebraska, a cold place in the middle of nowhere that most Chinese people had never heard of.
I was giving it up to be with Tim, to get married and start a family. Knowing now that he wasn't going to marry me made me feel cheap and common, as if I was being treated like a prostitute.
Wang recalled how she ended things with Walz after the incident despite his requests to make it work. She also added that she’s coming forward now as she feels Walz is not fit for the VP job. She said:
This is a very crucial moment in history and a man like this does not appear to have the character and integrity to do one of the most important jobs in the world.
