Who is Tosca Musk?
Tosca Musk is the youngest of the Musk siblings and has carved out a niche in the entertainment industry. The 50-year-old pursued a career in filmmaking and went on to co-found Passionflix, a streaming service and production company that adapts romance novels into films. She received her bachelor’s degree in film from the University of British Columbia and has previously produced romance films for Lifetime and Hallmark, as per People.
Tosca is passionate about telling women-centric stories and pushing the boundaries of romance filmmaking. Reportedly, despite her brother’s influential standing, she ‘had to go out and find every investor’ to secure funding for Passionflix. She said:
Trying to raise money for a female-driven platform on romance was just not high on anybody’s priority list at the time. But as soon as we showed there was that many people that would come on board, the investors just started flying in.
Aside from her career, Tosca is also known for her unconventional approach to family life. She is a single mother to twins, Isabeau and Grayson, whom she had through in vitro fertilization (IVF) and a sperm donor.
She believed having fraternal twins was the best choice for her because it ‘just didn’t make sense' to wait for the right partner to have kids. She explained:
I didn't want to have children with somebody I didn't want to spend the rest of my life with.
And I certainly didn't want to go through brutal divorces.
Tosca and Elon's relationship
Tosca and Elon are very close and they share a great bond so much so that when she decided to be a single mother the first person she broke the news to was the Tesla CEO. She recalled:
I told my eldest brother [Elon] first and he said immediately, ‘I think that’s a good idea. You’d make a great mother. I support you in that.
Tosca has also spoken about how her children struggle with hearing negative things about Elon. She told The Sunday Times in 2022:
I don't like that my kids watch YouTube and there are jokes about my brother; it makes them feel a little uncomfortable. And they don't understand why people would say [negative] things about him.
Despite the public scrutiny Elon faces, Tosca remains proud of him. She said:
I'm incredibly proud of my older brother. He is a phenomenon. He's exceptional in so many ways and his goals to help humanity are beyond anything that anybody can imagine.
Who is Kimbal Musk?
Kimbal Musk, 52, is the middle Musk sibling and has made his mark in both the tech and food industries. Though he sits on the boards of Tesla and SpaceX, his true passion lies in food and sustainability.
In 2004, he co-founded The Kitchen, a group of community-focused restaurants, and later launched Big Green in 2011, a nonprofit that builds learning gardens in schools. In 2016, he also co-founded Square Roots, an urban farming company aimed at bringing fresh produce to urban areas. However, Square Roots shut down most of its locations in 2023, citing operational challenges.
His love for food stems from his childhood, where he often cooked for his family. He told The Guardian in 2015:
Growing up, I cooked in the house, and when I cooked everyone would sit down and eat, and it was just kind of the way I connected with my family.
His culinary aspirations intensified after 9/11 when he spent six weeks cooking for firefighters at Ground Zero. The experience inspired him to open restaurants and create meaningful dining experiences. He said:
Cooking for the firefighters, it was this just overwhelming sense of community that was created.
Kimbal has been married twice. He was previously married to artist Jen Lewin, and in 2018, he tied the knot with environmental activist Christiana Wyly. The couple celebrated their fifth anniversary in 2023, revisiting the Greek and Roman ruins where they exchanged vows.
Kimbal and Elon's relationship
Despite being close to Elon, Kimbal doesn’t always agree with his brother. In a 2024 interview with The Times, his wife Christiana described their relationship as ‘chaos.’ She said:
Kimbal challenges Elon and disagrees with him more than anyone, but in a container of, ‘I love you, you’re my brother. But I don’t agree with you…’
They have different world views but at the end of the day, they are both just giggling children. They have the most insane laughter attacks with each other.
Kimbal himself admitted:
We might be angry as heck in the moment, and then five minutes later we want to watch a movie together.
One of their most notorious disagreements happened in the 1990s while they were running their first startup, Zip2. According to Walter Isaacson’s biography of Elon Musk, Kimbal once bit a piece of flesh off Elon’s hand. He required stitches and a tetanus shot.
As per NYPost, the incident occurred when Kimbal thought Elon was about to punch him in the face during one of their many heated disputes. The brothers often had 'rolling-on-the-office-floor fights,' with Zip2 employees witnessing their explosive confrontations.
Despite their frequent clashes, they managed to co-run Zip2 successfully until they sold it to Compaq in 1999 for $305 million, with Elon taking home $22 million and Kimbal earning $15 million from the deal.
Elon Musk’s half-siblings
While Kimbal and Tosca are Elon’s full siblings, he also has four younger half-siblings from his father, Errol Musk. Errol married Heide Bezuidenhout and the two went on to have two daughters together, Alexandra and Asha Rose before eventually splitting after 18 years of marriage.
Heide has a daughter named Jana from her past relations and in a shocking revelation, Errol later admitted that he had fathered two children with Jana, his former stepdaughter.
Elon was reportedly furious upon learning about this, with sources stating he ‘went berserk.’ However, Errol showed no remorse, saying:
The only thing we are on Earth for is to reproduce.
