Dad was ‘being human’
Amidst this, 21-year-old Willow Smith has now defended her father on the grounds of humanity, reports US Weekly. This is the first time ever she has spoken about the Oscar slap incident, other than giving a cryptic message on her Instagram two days after the incident. Reportedly, she shared a quote on her story two days after the slap occurred which read:
You know who’s going through a lot right now? Literally everyone, just be kind.
However, the singer has now explicitly addressed the incident saying her family is as ‘human’ as everyone else. The musician said:
I see my whole family as being human, and I love and accept them for all their humanness.
Because of the position that we’re in, our humanness sometimes isn’t accepted, and we’re expected to act in a way that isn’t conducive to a healthy human life and isn’t conducive to being honest
Too much to lose
Because of the slapping incident, Will Smith had to give up on a lot of things. For starters, Will Smith resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the beginning of April. And a week later, the organization banned Smith from going to any Oscar-related event for the next ten years.
A day after the ceremony, Will also issued a lengthy Instagram apology to the former cast member of Saturday Night Live, calling all types of assault ‘poisonous and destructive.’
