Over 2,000 people attended this memorial and 2.5 billion people watched it around the world.
A private funeral then took place with just family and Princess Diana’s body was laid to rest on a small island in Althorp, at the Spencer family’s estate.
Sadly, William and Harry’s mother still was unable to get the rest that she deserved after all those years of being stalked and followed by paparazzi all over the world.
Lady Di’s tomb has been visited four times
In 2017, Charles Spencer revealed a very sad story on Radio 4 about his sister’s remains:
We have had four attempted break-ins towards her body in the last 20 years. I am very glad that we have seen all of them off.
The Earl still doesn’t understand why people would want to do this, but he intends to watch over his sister as much as possible:
There are some odd people out there. Keeping her right here [at Althorp] is the safest place.
Althorp Estate, Lady Diana’s final resting place
The Althorp estate has been in the Spencer family since the 16th century. It is located in the centre of the country and about a two-hour drive from London.
Lady Diana is buried on an island that is only accessible by boat. To get to the lake that surrounds it, you have to take a path, bordered by thirty-six oaks, each marking a year of her life and her grave is guarded day and night by four black swans.
Lady Diana’s family and friends can come and visit her in complete privacy and Princes William and Harry regularly visit their mother’s grave.
We hope that the Princess will finally be able to get the rest that she deserves.
