Camilla Parker Bowles to follow in the footsteps of Prince Philip as Queen Consort

Camilla Parker Bowlesis turning 75-years-old on 17 July. She was celebrating her birthday at a lunch hosted by The Oldie magazine and broadcaster Gyles Brandreth when she made a speech paying tribute to the Queen and her late husband, Prince Philip.

Inspired by the Queen and Prince Philip

Camilla described her parents-in-law as 'two of the most remarkable people in our country’s history,' as reported by The Telegraph. She said:

The Duke of Edinburgh’s philosophy was clear: ‘Look up and look out, say less, do more – and get on with the job’ - and that is just what I intend to do.

Both he and Her Majesty have always been the very touchstone of what it truly means to ‘get on with the job’, and an inspiration to each one of us here to do the same, whatever our age.

Not so politically correct

While Prince Philip’s motto might have been to 'say less, do more,' he was well known for his witty humour, and not so well known for his political correctness, as reported by Express. Indeed, he made public gaffes on more than one occasion. It seems that Camilla is also emulating this aspect of her father-in-law’s personality when she poked fun at modern sensibilities by saying:

Ladies and gentlemen, if I’m allowed to call you that, good afternoon.

The Oldies Luncheon was held at the National Liberal Club, Whitehall. The star-studded guest list included Rick Stein, Twiggy, Jeremy Irons, and Dame Joanna Lumley. The Duchess of Cornwall's tiered birthday cake was presented by her 15-year-old granddaughter, Lola.
