Nothing makes you want a four day weekend more than the prospect of sun, beaches and the Queen’s Jubilee. Luckily Her Majesty has heard our prayers and has granted us a four day weekend in 2022.

On Wednesday, the Buckingham Palace confirmed that a four-day holiday would be introduced in 2022 in celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.
The special four day bank holiday will take place between the 2nd and 5th of June next year, just in time for summer to really kick in. During this time, theTrooping the Colour will also return in full for the first time since the pandemic began.
The following day, St Paul’s Cathedral will host a Service of Thanksgiving for the Queen and on Saturday, her family will join her Highness at the Epsom Downs Derby.
The Buckingham Palace will hold a live concert with extraordinary acts
That evening a live concert will be held at the Buckingham Palace, aptly named The Platinum Party at the Palace.
Members of the public will be allowed to apply for tickets to the event through a ballot, the details of which will be announced at a later date. The event is likely to be similar to the previous Diamond Jubilee concert, which had roughly 10,000 tickets up for grabs, with over 1.2 million people applying. A further 500,000 people watched the show from screens in local parks and malls.
Performers for the concert - staged and produced by the BBC - are yet to be confirmed, but the 2012 Diamond Jubilee held extraordinary acts from Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney and Kylie Minogue. So, it’s safe to say we have high expectations for next year’s performance.
A spokesperson for the event also described that it ‘will bring together some of the world’s biggest entertainment stars to celebrate the most significant and joyous moments from The Queen’s seven-decade reign.’
What is a Platinum Jubilee?
The Platinum Jubilee marks seven decades of the Queen’s reign, after ascending to the throne on the 6th of February 1952 when she was just 25. However, royal events are usually put off until the summer to allow for better weather.
Queen Elizabeth is also the first British Monarch to celebrate the massive milestone of a Platinum Jubilee. Just four years ago, she also became the longest-reigning British monarch, taking over from Queen Victoria.
