Donald Trump takes a swipe at Meghan Markle
On Friday 7 February 2025, Donald Trump made a comment about Meghan Markle. The President has never been a fan of the Duchess and there is no love lost between the two, as Meghan Markle once called him 'divisive' and a 'misogynist'.
Amid the Duke's legal battle over his immigration status, which has been endangered by his admission of using recreational drugs in his memoir Spare, Donald Trump first argued he would not help the Prince as 'he betrayed the Queen'. However, the businessman-turned-politician seems to have changed his mind, as he recently told the New York Post:
I don’t want to do that. I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible.
Prince Harry's immigration status case was originally settled in September 2024, when a judge ruled in favour of the Duke as he had 'legitimate privacy interest in his immigration status'. However, the case will be reopened on Wednesday 12 February 2025, in a federal court in Washington D.C.
Prince Harry seemingly criticises Donald Trump
On 8 February 2025, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle both appeared at the opening of the latest edition of the Duke's Invictus Games. In his speech, Prince Harry made a subtle comment which many have interpreted as a 'jibe' towards Donald Trump. He praised the veterans' 'courage, values and humanity' at a time 'when there is no shortage of crises, no absence of uncertainty, no lack of weak moral character in the world'.
The opening ceremony of this year's Invictus Games saw a star-studded concert, featuring none other than Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin, American idol Katy Perry, as well as Nelly Furtado. Held in Vancouver's 40,000-capacity BC Place Stadium, the ceremony marked what is believed to be the biggest Invictus Games since their creation in 2014.
