Archewell foundation partners up to help evacuate Afghan women
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have most recently come forward to support Afghanistan’s largest women’s organisation, Women for Afghan Women (WAW), to help them evacuate women during the recent, harrowing takeover of the Taliban. WAW took to Twitter to announce the support and thank Harry and Meghan and included a resource guide on how to help those seeking refuge. The tweet read:
We are immensely grateful for the generosity of the Archewell Foundation in support of our efforts to evacuate/relocate thousands of Afghan women, children, families, including our staff.
Meghan and Harry reach out to Haiti
World Central Kitchen, which provides meals for countries recovering from natural disasters, also announced its partnership with The Archewell foundation over the weekend. Currently, the organisation is providing aid for those in Haiti recovering from the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck earlier this month, killing over 2,000 people.
With support from around the world & our partners The Duke and Duchess of Sussex & Archewell Foundation joining the relief effort, WCK is now delivering thousands of hot, nutritious meals daily to hospitals & shelters caring for Haitians impacted by the earthquake. Thank you!
Meghan and Harry deliver a heartfelt message
News of The Archewell Foundation’s generosity comes not long after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared a heartfelt message to the website, offering their sympathies to those affected by both the humanitarian and natural disasters.
The pair exclaimed: 'When any person or community suffers, a piece of each of us does so with them, whether we realize it or not. And though we are not meant to live in a state of suffering, we, as a people, are being conditioned to accept it. It’s easy to find ourselves feeling powerless, but we can put our values into action—together.'
The statement also read that the pair are also working on partnerships to promote coronavirus vaccine equity and dispel misinformation surrounding the virus:
Finally, against this backdrop, we are acutely aware that the rise of the COVID-19 Delta variant has jeopardized the health and safety of families around the world. We are working to support vaccine equity through our commitment to combating the spread of misinformation, as well as our ongoing partnerships with Vax Live and Global Citizen.
Meghan and Harry also provided a list of organisations for those struggling, including WAW, World Central Kitchen and various other mental health groups.
We recognize that many of you may feel helpless right now as you watch the state of the world spin rapidly. It can feel disorienting and defeating, but we have faith in the power of shared purpose, action, and commitment to our collective well-being.
