James Hewitt and Princess Diana had a five-year relationship between 1986 and 1991. Lady Diana confessed to her relationship with the former cavalry officer during her infamous BBC Panorama interview in 1995. Their relationship occurred while Diana was still married to then-Prince Charles. The two were married in 1981, they separated in 1992, and the divorce was finalised in 1996.

James Hewitt lives a rather low-key life, however he made a rare apperance on ITV's Good Morning Britain (GMB)
The main focus of the interview was his involvement in Operation Safedrop, which involves delivering humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Nonetheless, Richard Madeley seized the opportunity to discuss what Hewitt thinks of Prince William and Prince Harry’s feud and how their mother would have reacted.
James Hewitt comments on Prince William and Prince Harry’s feud
As mentioned above, James Hewitt was a guest on GMB. During the interview, host Richard Madeley asked Hewitt how Diana would have reacted to her sons’ ongoing feud.
Speaking candidly, he said she ‘would be concerned’ like any mother who has children fighting. He also added that he believes Diana would have tried ‘her best’ to get them to sort things out and reunite. He said, as quoted by Daily Mail:
I think any mother would be worried and concerned about such a rift, as you put it, and she’d do her best to try and get them together.
Naturally, Hewitt also spoke about Diana and the way mental health is talked about nowadays, explaining that as a society, we have ‘progressed’ and mental health is talked about a lot more.
I think we've progressed and it's seemingly possible to talk about those kinds of problems now, in a way I think that's a good thing.
Finally, James revealed the last time he spoke to Princess Diana was shortly after the Panorama interview. He told Madeley that their conversation was ‘distant’.
Prince William and Prince Harry’s former royal aide comments on their feud
James Hewitt isn’t the only person who recently commented on the ongoing feud between Prince William and Harry. As reported by People, Jason Knauf, who used to work as a communications secretary for the royal brothers and their wives, also spoke on the matter.
On February 23, he was interviewed by 60 Minutes Australia, and he explained that it must be hard for both William and Harry to have their feud made so public.
However, despite the publicity, Knauf acknowledges that Prince William’s desire to keep the matter private should be respected.
It’s very difficult to have this stuff play out in the public eye, but [William’s] chosen to keep his thoughts on it private, and I think all of us who know him really have to respect that we should do the same.
He goes on to add that it’s ‘hard and sad’ to see the brothers estranged, especially for ‘those who know both of them’.
