James Middleton reveals how Prince William changed Kate Middleton
In his memoir, he opened up about how Prince William has influenced Kate and the transformation he witnessed in her since they began dating. James has revealed that the heir to the throne helped boost his sister’s confidence, reports The Express.
He recalls how, after Kate and William began dating, the future Princess of Wales ‘blossomed.’ According to James, the Prince of Wales brought out the best in his sister, helping her become the poised and confident woman the public sees today. He wrote in his book:
It was beautiful to see how he brought out her confidence. She'd blossomed. I knew he'd look after her, and he does to this day.
Reflecting on how Kate’s personality flourished in their relationship, adding that it was clear to him from early on that William was the perfect match for her, he penned:
I thought how lucky William was to be marrying my capable, down-to-earth big sister, and I felt absolutely reassured that they were in love.
William has been in our lives for so long and we've grown very fond of him. He feels like our older brother and he and Catherine are so clearly a good fit, just right for each other.
James Middleton on Kate and William’s engagement
James also shared how the sibling reacted to Kate’s engagement with William. Reportedly, they promised to always be with each other. In an excerpt from Meet Ella that’s been published online, James explained:
Our family knew a day or so before it was officially announced in November 2010. Catherine, Pippa and I go out for a walk with Ella and Tilly to our local pub in a village near Bucklebury. We sit in a corner, chatting quietly.
Pippa and I want to be visibly excited, but we have to tamp down our emotions so no one suspects a thing. We make a quiet acknowledgement that we’ll always be there for each other, look out for one another, support each other. No matter how crazy things get.

James Middleton’s memoir, Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life, delves deeply into his personal struggles and triumphs, including his battle with depression and the role his dog, Ella, played in helping him through those challenging times.
According to Simon & Schuster’s website, James longed for a dog from a young age and when he finally got one, his life changed drastically. The book traces their connection from the moment they met, highlighting their adventures together, from the Scottish mountains to royal weddings. Ella played a significant role in James’ life, including introducing him to his future wife, Alizee.
The book will be released on 24 September.
