Kate Middleton hires new private secretary after over a year: Who is Lieutenant Colonel Tom White?

Since King Charles ascended the throne after Queen Elizabeth's death on September 8, 2022, Princess Kate and Prince William have taken on more important roles within the Firm. This is mainly due to the fact that Prince William is heir to the throne, and one day, Princess Kate will become Queen Consort.

Naturally, as they take on more responsibilities, the Prince and Princess of Wales will need extra support and have both hired new private secretaries. Prince William’s new private secretary was announced around the beginning of February.

As Princess Kate continues her recovery from abdominal surgery with the help of the couple’s live-in nanny, Maria Borrallo, it has been announced that she has appointed her new private secretary, Lieutenant Colonel Tom White.

Who is Lieutenant Colonel Tom White?

As reported by Mirror, Princess Kate has appointed Lieutenant Colonel Tom White as her private secretary after he joined her for a public engagement in 2023. The Princess of Wales has been without a private secretary since October 2022 after Hannah Cockburn-Logie left, as per Hello!.

Lieutenant Colonel Tom White is no stranger to working for the Royal Family. Indeed, up until her death, Lieutenant White worked for Queen Elizabeth as her equerry. An equerry is an officer of the British royal household who attends or assists members of the Royal Family.

He joined the position in 2020 and became the first Royal Marines commando to hold the position of equerry, as per Hello!. Lieutenant White served in Afghanistan in 2009 as a member of 42 Commando.

Moreover, as per Mirror, Lieutenant Colonel Tom White is the first male appointed as Princess Kate’s private secretary. Before the Lieutenant, the role had been filled by women.

After the announcement was made that Princess Kate had appointed Lieutenant Colonel Tom White as her private secretary, royal followers took to social media gushing over the new hire.
