Kate Middleton's public speaking is being scrutinised online, here's why

Princess Kate is the patron of Wimbledon so it was only natural that she would make an appearance. Today, 4 July 2023, Princess Kate showed up wearing a mint green 80s inspired jacket and was interacting with a special guest: Roger Federer.

The two sat next to each other in the Royal Box and many pictures have been taken. In one, you see the Duchess lead the standing ovation for the retired tennis player and in another you see the two in deep conversation.

Under this picture, one twitter user commented something that caught our attention and made us want to dig deeper. Let’s find out what it is…

Kate Middleton’s alleged mumbling

The Duchess and former tennis player Roger Federer, know each other, they even played tennis together last week. Since both of them are high profile celebrities, especially at Wimbledon, it was only natural that numerous pictures of them would surface.

Twitter user @TennisPodcast captioned the picture with this question: ‘What are they talking about?’

This is a very simple question which at first glance doesn’t really warrant anything controversial. Well... that is until you look at the comment section.

Twitter user @tennysonsarah1 comments:

Well, Kate Middleton can't talk. So far, 10 years of elocution lessons to speak posher than the late Queen have only led to her mumbling her incoherent thoughts. Who has forgotten her 'Can you test the smell by smelling it?'

The unexpected was discovered when looking further into the comment.

Apparently the Duchess has been given a new title following these comments. Some Twitter users are calling her ‘Queen of mumble.’

Kate Middleton’s public speaking monitored for years

It appears that, for years, various Twitter users have been collecting evidence of Princess Kate’s 'lack of eloquence.'

One example is a video of Princess Kate visiting a school in which it sounds like the Duchess isstruggling to form a sentence. Of course, people have used this to feed into the alleged feud between The Duchess of Wales and Maghan Markle, comparing the two women’s ease with public speaking.

A user even placed two extracts of an event the two women attended side by side to draw their comparison.

Finally, the comment that started it all said:

Who has forgotten her 'Can you test the smell by smelling it?

Well, since we didn’t know about this we looked and the Duchess did indeed say it ...

That being said Princess Kate has been seen talking in public numerous times before. For instance, when she reopened the National Portrait Gallery she engaged Paul Mccartney in conversation. It should also be mentioned that a vast number of people are not comfortable speaking in public and most of them are not scrutinised by the press and the world every single day.
