King Charles III ascended to the throne the minute his mother passed away. He was announced as the King of England at his accession ceremony on September 10, 2022; however, his coronation date was still uncertain until today. Buckingham palace confirms that His Majesty’s coronation will take place on May 6 2023 – also famously known as his grandson Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s birth date.

Sussexes have a choice to make
Archie was born on May 6, 2019, and will be turning 4-year-old next year on his grandfather’s coronation day. Amongst MANY arguments that are making rounds on the internet, (including if the coronation date is a snub to the Sussexes) the most prominent and probably worth paying attention to is – will the Sussexes attend the coronation ceremony?
While it’s no different from Lilibet’s birthday falling during the Platinum Jubilee celebration – which the Sussex couple did attend – it’s still a tricky question to answer. On one hand, the Sussex family wants to reconcile with the Royal Family as evident by their last-minute changes and postponement of upcoming media projects that could potentially mess up their chances of a reconciliation.
Meanwhile, on the other, the couple hasn’t been very considerate or thoughtful while speaking about the current monarch and his wife – Queen Consort Camilla – in public before.
Invites and attendance – a big question!
Another interesting aspect revolves around the question of whether Prince Harry and Meghan will be attending the coronation ceremony or not. As attendance would only follow an invitation and – as of now – no invitations have been sent or intended to be sent.
Considering how King Charles is keen on a reconciliation himself, Katie Nicholl, a royal expert, told Entertainment tonight:
We haven’t got any official details on the guest list, but I’m hearing they are likely to be invited along with other senior and extended family members.
Whether or not we see them there -- we have to wait and see, but it’s my understanding they will be, of course, receiving an invitation to the coronation.
It remains to be seen whether or not they attend, but of course, it will be down to the Sussexes to make the ultimate decision as to whether they're going to come over for King Charles coronation on May the 6th.
