The Princess Royal has also been one to break traditional gender roles in her family. She was the first woman to stand guard at a monarch’s coffin, as well as join the procession during her mother’s funeral.
Princess Anne has strived to be on the same level as her brothers and has been making history for quite some time now. She has now been appointed a new role ahead of King Charles’ coronation and has already got stuck into it.
Princess Anne is now the Senior Colonel of the Household Division
King Charles appointed his sister as the new Senior Colonel of the Household Division. The Princess has already taken on the duties of her new role and visited the Wellington Barracks, which are situated near Buckingham Palace.
Princess Anne was appointed Senior Colonel after her mother, Queen Elizabeth, died in September 2022. The Princess Royal already holds a similar title as Colonel of the Household Cavalry's Blues and Royals.
The new role was confirmed by the Palace after Anne visited the barracks to show her gratitude to the soldiers taking part in the coronation.

Princess Anne will have a role during King Charles’ coronation
With her new position, Princess Anne will also have a role during her brother’s coronation. Indeed the Princess Royal will ride horseback behind the gold carriage of King Charles and Queen Camilla during the procession.
As Senior Colonel, Anne will also host a dinner for the other Household Division Colonels, including Princess Kate, who is the Colonel of the Irish Guards, on the eve before the Trooping the Colour ceremony.
