And everything fell silent

King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla were in Dumfries House when a frantic phone call from Balmoral about Queen Elizabeth II’s health. Newsweek’s Chief Royal Correspondent Jack Royston confirmed that everything went silent as soon as the news came in.

An aide was heard running down the corridor to find them. Queen consort Camilla was about to be interviewed by former US President George Bush's daughter when the phone call arrived, confirmed The Sun. Jack Royston revealed:

Charles and Camilla were in Dumfries House.
Camilla was actually about to record an interview with Jenna Bush Hager, who said she heard footsteps running in the hallway.
Charles took a call, everything was silent, and they were asked to be silent.

Race against time

The phone call came around 12.30 pm and Buckingham Palace then released a statement at 12.34 pm. Minutes after the phone call, King Charles III’s helicopter scrambled from his estate in East Ayrshire. Royston added:

Next thing she knew, Charles and Camilla were in a helicopter.
And that was at 12.30pm, so that was around exactly the same time that we were told.

Only King Charles and Princess Anne were able to make it to the Queen’s bedside before she passed away. All of her other children and grandchildren arrived too late, with Prince Harry arriving at 8pm.
