King Charles buys £3M house for Queen Camilla
Queen Camilla has owned Ray Mill House since 1995. She used the money from her divorce with Andrew Parker Bowles to buy the estate as a bolthole, a place where she can escape when she needs to be in the countryside. The Queen refused to let go of her beloved home when she married King Charles, and she still owns it to this day. However, the house located right beside Ray Mill House was about to be sold as a wedding venue, which caused Queen Camilla 'great anxiety', according to the Daily Mail. However, the Queen need not fear, for King Charles decided to buy the Old Mill for £3M. An anonymous source told the Daily Mail:
Think of it – dozens of wedding guests carousing every weekend just the other side of her fence.
The Old Mill's fence is just 30ft from Ray Mill House, which caused the Queen to be worried about her safety. As the sell was just about to be done, reports allege that King Charles intervened and bought the house with private funds. He promised to install a 'security-vetted tenant' in the house who will ensure it is put to 'appropriate' use. A royal source said:
The new arrangement is a pragmatic solution, being both a sound financial investment and a way of maintaining Her Majesty's privacy, protection and continued enjoyment of her much-loved home, without any public funds being used.
I know how grateful and relieved she is, not least given all the additional stresses and anxieties of the past year.
The King has not publicly acknowledged his recent purchase.
The village was used as a backdrop on Harry Potter
Both Queen Camilla and King Charles' estates are located in the picturesque village of Lacock, in Wiltshire. The village's traditional stone cottages and mediaeval architecture have remained 'untouched' for the past 200 years, retaining the place's charm and beauty.
This lovely village will be no stranger to fans of a very special British franchise. Indeed, the Lacock Abbey was used as a filming location for Hogwarts' courtyard and some of the classrooms, in the Harry Potter films.
