The monarch is on a mission to do 'a lot more’ for the Royal Family before he goes down. Amidst this, his hospitalisation may have slowed down his speed but not his intentions. Reportedly, the monarch’s choice of hospital was also made keeping taxpayers in mind.

King Charles was treated at The London Clinic to save £14,000

King Charles went for his surgery at the London Clinic in Marylebone yesterday and is understood to be doing fine after it. However, it has now emerged that the reason behind choosing this London hospital was to avoid a double security bill. According to The Express, if King Charles would have picked the Royal Family’s favoured hospital - King Edward VII’s - it would have cost an additional £14,000.

This comes as King Charles would have required a second bodyguard whose estimated cost is calculated to be around £14,000. Kate Middleton opted to get her abdominal surgery at the London Clinic and the monarch also decided to go there to ease the burden on taxpayers instead of going to the nearby King Edward VII’s.

An insider claimed that the King ‘felt it was important’ for the Royal Family to think about the ‘cost implications for taxpayers.’ They said:

With the Princess similarly at the Clinic, shared resourcing has been possible with regards to public policing.

The cost of Royal security has not been discussed publicly by palace aides or Scotland Yard but it is estimated to be around £7,000 per day.

Despite not opting for their favourite hospital, King Charles has not ‘downgraded’ his comfort or facilities in any way. Reportedly, The London Clinic is a ‘luxurious’ go-to hospital for Royals and many other public figures. Patients at this hospital are served by an in-house chef, confirms The Sun.

The patients at the London Clinic get their own concierge service along with comfortable rooms with an electronic patient-controlled bed, en-suite bathroom, a safety deposit box, and a TV. The hospital has previously treated Prince Phillip and Princess Margaret as well.

This comes as the hospital was formed by a group of doctors who invited the Queen Mother in 1932 to officially open it to the public. Queen Camilla is a patron of the hospital and Queen Elizabeth II opened a £80m cancer centre there in 2010.
