1. What does Lilibet’s name imply?
According to People, the little baby is named after two special women whose presence are crucial in Prince Harry’s life, his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II and his mother Princess Diana. The name ‘Lilibet’ isa sweet tribute that Prince Harry has for the Queen, currently the longest-serving monarch in British history. As a child, the Queen was often called Lilibet as a nickname by her doting Royal relatives, including her father. The last person to affectionately call Her Majesty Lilibet is her late husband Prince Phillips, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 99.
Hello! writes that the baby’s middle name, Diana, is a gesture to honor Princess Diana, Prince Harry’s mother. Princess Diana is the first wife of Prince Charles and the Royal Couple shared two children, Prince William and Prince Harry. Unfortunately, she passed away in a car crash in Paris in 1997, an event that shocked the British public.
2. Why it took almost a year for Lilibet to meet her royal relatives
Up until she was almost a year old, Lilibet had not met any royal relatives yet, even her great grandmother - the Queen. That only changed in June 2022 when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to take the kids back to the UK to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, which marked her 70th year on the throne.
People reported that up until then Her Majesty had only seen Lilibet via video call, due to the pandemic restrictions and Prince Harry’s refusal to bring his kids to the UK.
One of the primary reasons that led to Prince Harry’s reluctance in bringing his children to the UK was his overwhelming fear of insecurity in Britain. Since exiting royal duties in 2021, Prince Harry and Meghan stopped receiving 24-hour state-funded police protection both in and outside the UK. However it seems like the couple managed to figure out the security issues just in time for the Jubilee celebrations.
3. Can Lilibet be the Queen one day?
According to the Royal website, Lilibet is eighth in line of succession to the throne, right after her elder brother, Archie. That means it would be unlikely for royal watchers to witness Lilibet’s ascent to the throne in the coming years.
