It has recently come out that two masked individuals were seen breaking into the Windsor estate on 13 October, while Prince William and his family were sleeping at their Adelaide Cottage, located only a few yards from the scene. The burglars climbed the six-foot fence in order to get into the estate, only a few days after the Sun on Sunday reported armed police had been removed the main entrances. The suspects are still at large, as the investigation continues.

Two masked men broke into Windsor estate

The Thames police recently revealed that they were looking into a burglary committed on 13 October 2024. Indeed, two masked men are reported to have climbed the six-foot fence in order to get into the estate and steal farm vehicles.

A Thames police spokesperson emphasized that no one has been arrested so far. The spokesperson went on to say:

At around 11.45pm on Sunday October 13, we received a report of burglary at a property on Crown Estate land near the A308 in Windsor. Offenders entered a farm building and made off with a black Isuzu pick-up and a red quad bike.
They then made off towards the Old Windsor/Datchet area. No arrests have been made at this stage and an investigation is ongoing.

The burglary came shortly after TheSun on Sunday revealed that armed police guards had been removed from Windsor Castle's two main public entrances. This meant that less people were around to stop the thieves on 13 October. However, armed officers are still thought to patrol the estate. According to The Sun, the burglars are said to have used a stolen vehicle to smash their way into the security gate. They eventually drove off in the pick-up truck and quad bike that they stole from a barn.

Prince William and his family were sleeping nearby

The two masked men broke into Shaw Farm, a working farm inside the castle's security zone. King Charles and Queen Camilla were not present on the estate at the time, but Prince William, Kate Middleton and their children were actually sleeping at their Adelaide Cottage. The family home is located a mere five minutes away from the scene of the burglary. Prince William and his family are often seen using the wrecked gate, which is the closest to their home.

A source told the Sun about the burglary, and about how well the thieves were prepared, saying:

There are alarms at Windsor Castle but the first time anyone knew there was a break-in was when they crashed through the security barrier at Shaw Farm Gate exit. The barrier has needed to be replaced as it was so badly damaged.
It was a Sunday night on a school week so the young princes and princess would have been tucked in bed at Adelaide Cottage, just around the corner but still in the grounds.
