Meghan Markle's estranged half-brother dismisses childhood stories from Netflix series: 'Nobody's buying it'

Meghan Markle has recently released a new Netflix series entitled With Love, Meghan. However, some of the stories she tells on the show left her half-brother pretty angry. Find out more below.

As part of Meghan Markle's longstanding deal with Netflix, the Duchess recently released a new TV show entitled With Love, Meghan. While a clip has already gone viral, during which the Duchess hits back at her friend Mindy Kaling after she called her Markle instead of Sussex, it seems another excerpt from the show did not please her family. Indeed, her estranged half-brother is now calling her out for allegedly lying about her childhood.

Meghan Markle's stories about her childhood

On her Netflix documentary, which came out on Tuesday 4 March 2025, Meghan Markle opened up about her alleged modest childhood. The Duchess explained she 'grew up on a lot of fast food and TV tray dinners'. She claims she grew up on cheap meals bought from chains such as Taco Bell, Jack in the Box, and Pollo Loco.

Meghan Markle also called herself a 'latchkey kid', but what does this really mean? Latchkey kids are children who are left alone as they walk home from school. These kids return to an empty home and are often left to fend for themselves as they wait for their parents to come home.

Thomas Markle Jr claims the stories are not true

Meghan Markle's estranged half-brother Thomas Markle Jr told TalkTV these were 'malarkey stories'. Although the two siblings have not spoken to each other in more than a decade, Thomas Markle Jr still took the opportunity to hit back at his half-sister. He explained:

That’s just another one of the malarkey stories she sold to the royal family for sympathy. We weren’t poor. She didn’t have to rub two nickels together at Sizzler’s salad bar.

Thomas Markle Jr also accused his half-sister of treating their father poorly, as she cut all ties with him after he admitted to staging paparazzi photos for cash before her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018.

As per NY Post, that is part of the reason he is not letting their father watch the documentary, as he claims his heart would be too weak to take it. He said:

The entire world knows how she treated her family, especially her father, who gave her everything. That’s why nobody’s buying it.

In the show, Meghan Markle also claims cooking for her friends and family is her love language. However, her half-brother seems to disagree. He said:
