Despite that, the mum-of-two has remained close with her mother, Doria. She featured in her and Prince Harry’s documentary. Recently, a resurfaced video from the documentary has gone viral.
In the resurfaced video, Meghan recounts her parents' divorce and the poem she wrote when she was 12 years old.
Meghan Markle’s haunting poem
In 2022, Prince Harry and Meghan released a docu-series on Netflix to share insight into their life. The documentary - which wasn’t filmed in their Montecito home - follows several aspects of their lives, from work to home.
Recently, as reported by Express, a resurfaced video from the documentary has gone viral on TikTok. The video has been viewed 7,1 million times and liked by 1,3 million people.
What is this video about? The poem the Duchess of Sussex wrote when she was 12 years old. The poem was written for school and was about her parents’ divorce.
In the documentary, she explained that her parents ‘co-parented well’ but she was still ‘sad’ about the situation. She then read the poem she wrote:
Two houses, two homes, two kitchens, two phones, two couches where I lay, two places that I stay. Moving, moving here and there, from Monday to Friday I'm everywhere.
Don't get me wrong, it's not that bad, but oftentimes it makes me sad. I want to live that nuclear life, with a happy dad and his loving wife.
A picket fence, a shaggy dog, a fireplace with a burning log, but it's not real, it's just a dream, I cannot cry or even scream. So here I sit with cat number three, Life would be easy if there were two of me.

A look into Doria and Thomas Markle’s relationship
As per Nicki Swift, Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland met on the set of General Hospital in the late 70s. Meghan has previously spoken about how her parents met. She told Elle in 2015:
It was the late Seventies when my parents met, my dad was a lighting director for a soap opera and my mom was a temp at the studio. I like to think he was drawn to her sweet eyes and her Afro, plus their shared love of antiques.
It has been suggested that their desire to leave small-town life helped them bond. According to
Nicki Swift, both Thomas and Doria left their families behind to start a new life in California.
Before getting with Doria, Markle was married to Roslyn and they had two children, Thomas Jr. and Samantha. The two were married from 1964 to 1975. Shortly after separating, Thomas and Doria became an item and married in 1979. They welcomed Meghan in 1981.
The couple eventually split in 1987. According to Thomas Markle in Channel 5’s Thomas Markle: My Story, he believes their marriage ended as he ‘wasn't home enough’ and Doria had ‘other interests’.
It went well for a while but I wasn't home enough. Doria had other interests as well. What was going on in that household at that time wasn't making me happy. So at first she wanted to move back into the city and that is what happened.
Then we divorced after that. The whole family split up at that time. Doria moved with Meghan to a nice little house and I would see her on weekends and whenever I could.
