As many know, Prince Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals. The couple announced their departure on January 8, 2020. A few days later, on January 13, the late Queen Elizabeth, then-Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry met at Sandringham to discuss their leaving The Firm.

The meeting was called the ‘Sandringham Summit’ but was widely known as ‘Megxit’. Per Mirror, Meghan attended the meeting virtually from Canada, and it included the heads of the four royal households—Queen Elizabeth, then-Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry. It was in this pivotal meeting that it was decided the couple would stop using their HRH titles, but will retain the prefix.
However, despite this agreement, Meghan recently signed a gift card with said title.
Meghan uses her HRH title
As reported by Mirror, Meghan Markle, who was recently accused of plagiarism, has now caused controversy when she decided to sign a card, ‘with the compliments of HRH, Duchess of Sussex’. The card was in a gift basket that she sent to Jamie Kern Lima, the founder of IT Cosmetics, and eagle-eyed royal fans were quick to notice and criticize her move.
It should be noted that legally, there's nothing stopping Prince Harry and Meghan from using or signing HRH. However, her use of the prefix has angered many royal fans, especially given that the couple specifically stated they would no longer be using it. In fact, at the time, the couple acknowledged the change in a statement on their official website.
They wrote:
As agreed and set out in January, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will retain their 'HRH' prefix, thereby formally remaining known as His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex and Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no longer actively use their HRH titles as they will no longer be working members of the family as of Spring 2020.
Given the fierce backlash, a source has spoken to the Daily Mail and clarified that the couple does not use HRH for commercial purposes. Jamie Kern Lima also clarified that she received the basket a year ago, before the launch of As Ever.
Indeed Meghan's new ventures have put her in the spotlight various times, with critics watching her every move. She's also been more vulnerable with the public through her podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder.
More recently, she was interviewed by Jamie Kern Lima for her podcast The Jamie Kern Lima Show and her revelations have cause further buzz.
Meghan tears up in podcast episode
During the interview, Meghan discussed home life and revealed she had created a ‘time capsule’ for her children.
The mum-of-two explained that she thought of the idea after a ‘mum friend’ talked about sending emails to her children to read when they were older. Inspired by her friend, Meghan did the same.
During the podcast, Meghan read one of the letters sent from her two children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3, written by Prince Harry.
From Archie and Lili via Papa. We love your cooking. We love your pancakes and we love, love, love your hugs. You're the best mummy and we love you.
As Meghan read the letter, she held back the tears, explaining that she loved that they used ‘mummy’ instead of ‘mommy’ as it’s ‘very British’.
Meghan makes slight dig at the Royal Family
The same podcast has netizens buzzing for several reasons, and it's not just because she chose not to wear make up.
Meghan talked about the beginning of her relationship with Prince Harry and made a comment that many have interpreted as a dig at the Royal Family. She revealed that the beginning of their relationship was like ‘butterflies’ but then, very quickly, they were ‘in the trenches’.
You have to imagine, at the beginning it's all butterflies – but then we immediately went into the trenches together.
She adds that she feels like her relationship feels more like a ‘honeymoon’ now than it did at the beginning.
Right out of the gate, like six months into dating. So now seven years later, when you have a little bit of breathing space, you can just enjoy each other in a new way. And that's why I feel like it's more of a honeymoon period for us now.
