Peter Phillips reveals Prince William and Kate make a fantastic team
In a rare interview, Princess Anne’s son reflected on the close bond he shares with his cousin Prince William. In a candid chat, he remarked that Prince William and Kate Middleton make a great team, reports Hello! Magazine.
Speaking to Sky News Australia, the 46-year-old said:
She's [Kate] remarkable in herself… Her and William make a fantastic team together.
He appreciated the couple for finding the right balance of public and private life with their kids - who are being taken care of with the help of their nanny Maria Borrallo. Peter shared:
Their kids are great and they have the balance of public life and trying to be parents to three young children which is always difficult.
They've got it pretty right because I think as history has taught us and anyone knows that actually you want to be there for your children.
Prince William is the ‘rock’ for the rest of the royals
Amidst the current crisis and challenging times of the Royal Family, Prince William is understood to be the ‘rock’ of the family. The Sun reported that he had been on the school run duties instead of Kate and has provided a ‘great source of comfort and reassurance’ to her. His family’s condition is often a personal turmoil for most people but due to the nature of their roles, it has been brought into the public’s eyes.
In the past, Royal Family members had to give precedence to their work over their family. However, Prince William is doing things differently. He recently pulled out of the memorial service for the former King Constantine of Greece back in February due to ‘personal reasons.’
It has now been confirmed that the personal reasons were the state of Kate’s health. Prince William - who is getting closer to the Queen Consort amid this crisis - is carrying around the weight of the Royal household, reports The Express. Sarah-Louise Robertson appeared on GB News and highlighted:
William is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders, so, he does need someone to be a rock in his corner.
He’s having to be a rock for everybody else, but who has Prince William got?
Prince William can count on Peter Phillips
And while Prince William and Kate's relationship seems to have only strengthened, the same cannot be said for Peter Phillips' love life. In April 2024, it was announced that Peter Phillips and his long time partner, Lindsay Wallace, had broken up.
In the midst of this sad news, publications refocused on the relationship between the two cousins, William and Peter, who are both going through difficult times.
Talking to The Telegraph on 10 April, an anonymous source compares Peter to a sort of 'older brother' to Prince William. They explained:
He’s always been that sort of slightly older brother to William, ever more so since Harry moved to America
Indeed, the Sussexes' move to the United States has put Peter Phillips in the middle of a publicised sibling rivalry. According the The Telegraph, on at least two occasions, Princess Anne's son was put in between the two princes in order to 'chaperone'. The first time was at Prince Philip's funeral in 2021 and the second at Queen Elizabeth's. About that historic and colossal event, The Telegraph writes:
Again he was required to take the lead at the funeral, walking in front of the royal brothers in the procession to avoid any conflict between the warring brothers about their own positioning.
A true sign that his role in the family is important if one remembers that Peter Phillips, though the son of Princess Anne and the first of Queen Elizabeth's grandchildren, doesn't have a title. But it appears that, this place in the family tree has always been a kind of burden to Peter. Sources, speaking to The Telegraph, state:
Pete’s always been required to be the sensible one; the eldest grandchild making sure things go smoothly. He always takes a pragmatic view on things, like his mother.
Reports say that he was 'horrified' by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's 2021 Oprah interview as this aired when Prince Philip, with whom Peter had a close relationship, was in the hospital. Now, as both himself and Prince William go through challenging times, their close bond is believed to be a source of comfort for both men.
