The sale’s gone through!
According to The Express, the chalet – that is named Chalet Helora – is sold to a British family for £19 million. The Duke has spent more than a year of legal battles over a £1.6 million debt. This comes as the sale of the house was stuck due to his debts.
The Swiss property was expected to be sold sooner so that the disgraced Duke could settle his legal costs for the Virginia Giuffre sex abuse case. However, a freezing order was placed on the sale to guarantee that one of Prince Andrew’s creditors – a couple – would receive the £1.6 million owed to them.
Despite the debt, the sale of his chalet has gone through successfully. Prince Andrew’s spokesperson confirmed:
The sale of the Duke and Duchess of York's Swiss chalet has now gone through.
Swiss Chalet
The seven-bedroom Swiss ski chalet comes with an indoor swimming pool, sun terrace, sauna opulent entertainment area and a bar. The 62-year-old Prince still owed more than £6 million for the chalet to its owner Isabelle de Rouvre. Isabelle once said:
It's really rather unbelievable. He caused me such stress and now it's claimed other people are owed money too.
They [Andrew and Sarah] are so crazy. He [Andrew] is an absolute fool and I just cannot understand how he goes about his life.
While the chalet was sold to Andrew and Fergie in 2014, the pair failed to pay £5 million to Isabelle. The French socialite agreed to defer the amount until 2019 – with accruing interest – but the Royalty didn’t honour the agreement. The issue was only resolved last year, however, the £1.6 million debt is still unresolved.
