In the past few weeks, unending rumours about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been going around. They are about multiple topics: a possible return to the UK, more business deals falling through, and of course divorce rumours.

While none of these have been confirmed and one is currently being squashed by the Sussexes, other news about them have surfaced! It appears that Meghan Markle has been endorsed for a run at the White House while another piece has listed some reasons why Prince Harry would make a good King.

These two pieces separately didn’t really hold out attention but they got us thinking. Would Prince Harry make a good King and could Meghan Markle become the leader of the free world?

Could Prince Harry be a better King than Prince William?

Monarchy follows strict rules. These dictate pretty much everything in its members’ lives but if there is one rule that trumps it all, it’s the rule concerning the line of succession. This one is quite simple: the first born is the heir. Of course there are exceptions in situations like abdication or death of a monarch without children.

Concerning the British crown, at the moment, Prince Harry is 5th in line after his brother Prince William and his three children. However, rules of succession don’t consider worthiness. Let’s have a look at what could make Prince Harry a worthy monarch.

Prince Harry is a military man

According to feednews.com one of the reasons that would make Prince Harry a worthy monarch is the fact that he served his country in the military. After serving for 10 years which took him to Afghanistan, Prince Harry ranked as Captain. That means that his military status is based on actual service and not just on rank or bloodline.

Moreover, being a military man shaped him. It gave him a sense of duty, patriotism and sacrifice. Throughout the years he has demonstrated that he is a passionate carer of the armed forces and in 2014 he honoured them with the Invictus Games.

Prince Harry particularly cares about the Commonwealth

Before stepping away as a ‘senior member’ of the Royal Family, Prince Harry was working hard for The Firm. He made countless appearances at events and he supported many charities.

More than that, and crucial to the success and continuity of the monarchy, Prince Harry made an impact within the Commonwealth. When Prince Harry was young he built strong ties in the Commonwealth, especially in Losotho where he co-created an initiative called Sentabale. This charity, co-founded with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, was ‘set up to ensure the most vulnerable children in Lesotho get the support they need to lead healthy and productive lives.’ Prince Harry himself, in his Netflix documentary, has shared how deeply this initiative and work in the Commonwealth has changed him.

Prince Harry is empathetic

Unfortunately for him Prince Harry’s life has been hit by a massive tragedy: the loss of his mother Lady Diana in 1997 when he was 12. Images of the young boy walking behind his mother’s casket touched the hearts of millions. Of course, this tragedy has also impacted Prince William but maybe not to the same extent.

First of all, Prince William was older and, as the heir, he has allegedly always gotten the support he needed from The Firm. However, Prince Harry has revealed that before the funeral heated discussions happened within the family culminating with Earl Spencer calling it a ‘barbarity.’ Indeed, Earl Spencer believed that it was inhumane for Diana's children to follow their mother's casket with the whole world watching.

This incredibly hard moment in his life shaped the young Prince and it seems like he has made it his life’s mission to carry out Lady Diana’s work in charity. He also seems to be incredibly adamant about being in touch with real people that need help.

And that makes him a worthy monarch! Or at least, a monarch we'd like to see!

Meghan Markle endorsed for the White House

On 2 August, the world was taken by surprise by one piece of news: The Duchess of Sussex had been endorsed for a run at the White House.

The endorsement came after days of the press writing about how President Biden had refused to lend the couple Air Force One for Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. The surprise endorsement came from Joe Biden’s sister, Valerie Biden Owens. According to Daily Mail, the woman believes that Meghan Markle could make a good president.

Could she?

Meghan Markle is already political

The first and obvious thing we must say is that this news, as surprising as it may have been, is not completely unfounded. Indeed, before become the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle was known to be very active in political and community work.

While she worked on Suits, she fought so that the food that wasn’t eaten on set be donated to the hungry. More than that, Meghan Markled has done work for the UN. The Evening Standard calls her a ‘world-class orator’ which is a quality required of a president.

According to the New York Post, a poll has revealed that Meghan Markle’s political future could actually be possible.

Indeed, ‘a current poll of Democrats asking which woman they would vote for’ puts her at the top.

Joe Biden’s sister who was nominated by President Barack Obama as ‘alternate representative of the United States to the 71st Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations’ seems to strongly believe that the Duchess of Sussex could make a good candidate.

She says:

The more women we have, the better our democratic system will work, with a better point of view, a different point of view and we embrace all women
We welcome [Markle] to come in and join the Democratic Party.

Could Prince Harry and Meghan still be together?

Now that we have explored the possibility of the Sussexes being leaders in their respective countries, one thing is still on our mind. Would that mean that the couple has to divorce?

Well we certainly do not want that especially after seeing the video they released on 2 August in which they look closer than ever. But we would love to see what the world would be like with these two on top!

Talk about a power couple!!
