The lead up to the wedding was filled with drama, especially on Markle’s side. The press was obsessed with her father and until the last moment his presence hung in the balance. Then, in a touching turn of events, Meghan Markle walked herself down the aisle before being joined halfway by then-Prince Charles who took her to his son.
The singing, the cello, the dress, the flowers and even the guest list made the whole thing look perfect. But that was clearly not the case for everyone…
Meghan Markle’s former co-star talks about the day
Talking on the Chicks in the Office podcast, Rick Hoffman spoke about the special day. The actor, who played Louis Litt on Suits, was part of the prestigious guest list alongside other Suits stars. At the time, Hoffman went viral for pulling a face.
While sat in St George’s Chapel the man looked bored, unimpressed and like he genuinely did not want to be there. The face was such a drastic departure from what was happening that watchers immediately turned it into a meme.
In May 2018,BBC News reported on that viral face and explained that the actor, in his own words, had been forced into making the face by someone with bad breath nearby. He explained:
To answer any questions about the weird face that was made at the wedding. (...) Imagine sitting next to people to your right and not knowing which person it was that has halitosis.
Hence the face that's apparently all over the place.
Years later the actor is giving even more details about the incident and explained on the Chicks in the Office podcast that ‘something really terrible and foul’ got to him.
As time goes on, I’m starting to smell something really terrible and foul, and I’m very sensitive when it comes to that so I start to try to do this (covers his face)
The actor explains that he tried to gauge the reaction of the people around him but he was unfortunately the only one to smell it.
What is halitosis?
Halitosis is bad breath’s fancy name. As we all know bad breath is something that most people try to prevent but sometimes it can’t be avoided.
However, the NHS reminds us that keeping your mouth generally clear is a good first step. They also advise against smoking. Causes of bad breath are varied and include spicy food and medical issues such as ‘dry mouth, tonsillitis and acid reflux’.
