This is the case for former footman Paul Burrell. Burrell was the Queen’s personal footman until 1987 when he joined Charles and Diana. He then became Lady Diana’s butler until her death in 1997.

Paul Burrell and Prince Harry have history
Paul Burrell worked with Lady Diana until she died. Because of his proximity to her, Burrell and Prince Harry have crossed paths many times. After Prince Harry’s mother died, Burrell released a memoir in which he states that Lady Diana called him the ‘only man she could trust.’ This memoir was perceived as a form of betrayal by both Prince Harry and Prince William.
In 2003, Burrell was on trial for selling items that belonged to the former Princess. After his trial, Prince Harry and Prince William thought of talking to Burrell but they feared that the former butler would just use this meeting as an opportunity to make more money.
In 2023, during court hearings for Prince Harry’s hacking trial, it is reported that the Prince admitted to calling Paul Burrell a ‘two face sh*t.’ Furthermore, the Duke of Sussex has very strong words against the man:
Both my brother and I had very strong feelings about how indiscrete Paul had proven to be with the way he had sold our mother's possessions and how he had given numerous interviews about her.
Prince Harry continued:
I would have used the phrase 'two-face s***'

Paul Burrell’s wild claim
As if the relationship between the two men couldn’t get any worse, Paul Burrell decided to speak with tabloid Mirror on 8 September 2023. In this exclusive interview, Burrell drops a bombshell. He says:
Even on Lilibet's first birthday the Queen didn't see her
She saw her the day before. But on her birthday, the Queen had a birthday cake made with one candle in it. And they never turned up. That candle was never lit.
This heartbreaking story is of course unverified and simply stands of what Burrell states.
He continues:
The next day she asked if maybe they'd like to come up for tea again and was told they've gone,
The Queen supposedly answered:
Oh no, they never said goodbye’
Even though Burrell hasn’t worked for the Royal Family since 1997, he claims that he was in touch with the Queen until her very death saying:
I wish the world could have known her the way I knew her.
It should also be noted that whether in interviews, their Netflix series and Prince Harry’s book, never did the Sussexes say anything harmful about Queen Elizabeth. Moreover, Burrell says that Prince Harry and his wife ‘never turned up’ but Prince Harry claims that he was kept away from his grandmother.
Now, it is evident that we will never know if what Burrell is saying is true but we can say one thing: it feeds into the villainization of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
