This led to people requesting his visa application be made public to see if he lied about taking drugs. Prince Harry also talks about some very sad times in his life, including his beloved grandfather’s passing. Indeed, it has been said that Prince Harry and Prince Philip were close, and Harry recalls the moment he found out about his death.

Prince Harry missed 32 calls from home

As reported by Express, Prince Harry revealed in his memoir, which is estimated to have made millions, that when Prince Philip died, he had received 32 calls from the Royal Family, all of which he had missed.

Prince Philip died on April 9, 2021, and was the longest-serving consort, he passed at the age of 99. Prince Harry moved to Montecito, California, USA in 2020, meaning the time difference made it difficult to get a hold of him.

In Spare, the father-of-two recalls waking up to ‘32 missed calls’ and the ‘short, heart-racing’ talk he had with his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. As per Express, the late Queen Elizabeth had told her grandson:

Harry… grandfather has passed away.

Prince Harry returned to the UK alone for Prince Philip’s funeral and paid a loving tribute to the ‘legend of banter’.

Prince Philip allegedly mad that Prince Harry quit

As mentioned above, Prince Harry and his grandfather, Prince Philip were close. In his tribute to Prince Philip, the Duke of Sussex explained that his grandfather was ‘authentically himself’ and he had a ‘sharp wit’ and was a very charming man.

Prince Harry also focused on the fact that Prince Philip was his ‘grandpa’ and a ‘master of the barbecue, legend of banter, and cheeky right 'til the end’, just like many grandfathers in the world.

However, even if the two princes were close, it has been said that Prince Philip was mad when his grandson quit royal life. According to Mirror, when Prince Harry and Meghan announced on social media that they were quitting royal life, they hadn’t informed the Royal Family.

This led to a crisis meeting at Sandringham, with the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William. Royal author Andrew Morton claims that Prince Philip had an ‘indignant’ response and allegedly said:

What the hell are they playing at?

Morton explains that for Prince Philip it was ‘simply incomprehensible’ that a royal didn’t want to be a royal anymore, especially as he had ‘sacrificed his whole life’ to support the late Queen Elizabeth.

The idea of a royal not wanting to be a royal any more nor willing to accept the Queen’s authority without question was simply incomprehensible, particularly to a man who had sacrificed his whole life in supporting the Queen and upholding the monarchy.
