Prince Philip played a large part in the planning of his funeral, which was initially set to include around 800 guests. Due to coronavirus restrictions, the funeral will now have only 30 people and will not be a state affair.
Guests are expected to be at the St George’s Chapel in Windsor at 3 pm on Saturday for the service.
Who is attending Prince Philip’s funeral?
Many familiar faces will be at the Duke's funeral, including his four children and their spouses. Only some of the Queen and Prince Philip’s grandchildren will be attending the service, including Prince William, Prince Harry, Zara Tindall, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. However, no great-grandchildren will be in attendance. The Queen will also be sitting alone during the service to adhere to safe social distancing rules.
Lesser-known faces in the royal spotlight include Lady Louise and Viscount James - Prince Andrew’s children, the Queen’s youngest son. The Queen’s cousins, Edward Duke of Kent, Richard Duke of Gloucester and Princess Alexandra, will also be in attendance, alongside Lady Sarah Chatto and David Armstrong-Jones, Niece and Nephew to the Queen.
Select guests from Prince Philip’s family will also be attending the funeral, with Prince Donatus - head of the household Hesse - representing Philip’s sisters Sophie and Cecile, who both married into the Hesse family. The Duke of Edinburgh’s great-nephew Prince Philipp will be representing the Duke’s oldest sister Princess Margarita. All four of Prince Philip’s sisters married German Princes, three of whom served as German officers in WWII; thus, they were not invited to the Duke’s wedding to Queen Elizabeth in 1947.
