The Cambridges are continuing their tour of the Caribbean and have been in Jamaica since Tuesday, March 22. After being confronted by protests, the Royal couple then had an awkward encounter with the Jamaican Prime Minister.

‘We are moving on’
Prince William and Kate met Andrew Holmes, the Jamaican Prime Minister, at his office in Kingston yesterday, March 23. Videos show the couple standing on either side of the Prime Minister as he talks to them about his country and their desire to move on from the Royal Family.
The PM said:
There are issues here which as you know are unresolved but your presence gives us an opportunity for those issues to be placed in context, to be out front and centre and to be addressed as best we can.
He then added:
But Jamaica is, as you would see, a country that is proud of its history and very proud of what we have achieved. And we’re moving on and we intend to…fulfil our true ambitions and destiny to become an independent and prosperous country.

Prince William acknowledged slavery
Prince William and Kate then attended a dinner hosted by the Governor General of Jamaica. Prince William took this opportunity to talk about the hardship the island has gone through and expressed ‘profound sorrow’ for the part the British played in the country’s tragic history.
He said:
While the pain runs deep, Jamaica continues to forge its future with determination, courage and fortitude,
Jamaica has begun the process of removing the Queen as their head of state and wish to become a Republic, completely independent from the Crown.
