How the royal children earn their pocket money
According to royal author Katie Nicholl, Prince William and Kate Middleton have been trying to teach their children to live ordinary lives, despite their rather extraordinary family status. The author revealed the couple are making their children do 'normal chores' in order to earn their pocket money. 11-year-old Prince George, 9-year-old Princess Charlotte and 6-year-old Prince Louis are said to help out at their parents' four-bedroom Windsor cottage, as the family let go of their live-in staff. She told the Mirror:
They absolutely do menial tasks. They are far more ordinary than many might imagine – the kids even have to do chores in return for their pocket money.
The couple reportedly want a normal family life. This upbringing may explain why the children have got rather normal expectations for their adult lives, away from Buckingham Palace. Indeed, Prince George is said to want to work in a restaurant before he takes over the throne. According to an insider, Princess Charlotte is considering a career in nursing. Katie Nicholl explained to the Mirror:
It's about them wanting to have a normal, happy, ordinary family home and lifestyle which, at Adelaide Cottage, they are really achieving.
Prince William and Princess Kate have strict house rules
More recently, Prince William also revealed some strict house rules the couple have put in place. During an interview with the BBC to talk about his Earthshot Prize awards in Cape Town, the Prince of Wales opened up about how he is trying to pass on his environmental dedication to his children through strict house rules, saying:
Every family tries to do what they can to sort of help with the environment.
Prince William stated that he hopes his three children can look up to his actions, such as the Earthshot Prize, and that his engagement can inspire them to act for their future and that of the planet.
We go through all the basics of recycling and making sure we minimise water use and turning off lights when we leave the house and stuff like that… Which is sensible in what we do around the environment.
The Prince of Wales concluded by saying every family needs to do what they can to protect the environment and slow down global warming.
And I think every family has these conversations. You just try to do what you can.
