At the age of only 15, Prince William had to face this tragic event alongside his brother Harry.
Nearly 23 years after the tragedy, Kate Middleton's husband still feels the pain caused by her death. The Duke of Cambridge has always been very discreet about his private life, especially regarding the subject of his mother. He only very rarely opens up about these painful memories.
Prince William opens up
In a documentary entitled Football, Prince William and our Mental Health, centred around football and made to encourage men to talk about their emotions, Prince William opened up about the subject. In a discussion with former player Marvin Sordell, who suffered from depression after growing up without a father, Prince William revealed that fatherhood has brought up many strong emotions.
Having children is the biggest life-changing moment, it really is. I agree with you and think when you've been through something traumatic in life—your dad not being around, my mother dying when I was younger—your emotions come back in leaps and bounds.
He also thanked his wife Kate, who has helped him a lot: ‘Me and Catherine, we support each other and we go through those moments together. We evolve and learn together.’ The Duke of Cambridge also spoke about becoming a father. He explained:
It's one of the most amazing moments of life but it's also one of the scariest.
Prince William rarely brings up his mother's tragic death, preferring to stay discreet. On the other hand, he continues to honour her memory. Last October, during an official trip to Pakistan, George, Charlotte and Louis’ father spoke with young girls from a school in Islamabad who said they were fans of his mother, Lady Di:
You were, really? Oh, that’s very sweet of you. I was a big fan of my mother too. She came here three times. I was very small.
