The Prince of Wales was in Cape Town, South Africa for the Earthshot Prize, and while there, he revealed that this year has been ‘dreadful’ and ‘probably been the hardest’ in his life. Indeed, as many know, both King Charles and Princess Kate faced major health issues, but the latter shared over the summer that she was ‘cancer-free’.

Despite his hardship, Prince William explained he was ‘proud’ of his father and wife for how they dealt with their issues.

Amid the candid confessions, the father-of-three also revealed he accidentally made his daughter cry.

As many know, Prince William has decided to go unshaven this year. Many royal fans were delighted by the Prince’s beard, however, according to the man himself, his daughter needed some convincing before he could keep it.

While in Cape Town, the Prince of Wales was asked what his family thought of his beard, replying that his daughter ‘didn’t like it the first time’ and he shaved it off.

Well, Charlotte didn’t like it the first time. I got floods of tears the first time I grew a beard, so I had to shave it off.
And then I grew it back. I thought, hang on a second and I convinced her it was going to be okay.

This isn’t a surprising reaction to a father suddenly growing a beard. Videos of young children not recognising their father when he has a beard have gone viral in the past.

Nonetheless, it seems Princess Charlotte has accommodated her dad's new look and it hasn't affected their relationship too much. In fact, Princess Charlotte gave her father a sweet gift and asked him to keep a promise whilst in South Africa.

Prince William’s promise to Princess Charlotte

You may remember in the summer Prince William took his children to Taylor Swift’s concert at Wembley. The dad-of-three was seen ‘shaking it off’ during the pop star’s iconic song. If you are familiar with Taylor’s concert, you’ll know that friendship bracelets were at the forefront and fans would happily exchange them.

While Prince William was in South Africa, he was spotted wearing a blue friendship bracelet. When asked about it, he revealed it was from his daughter and he promised to wear it and not lose it.

As per Mirror, the Prince of Wales said:

Well, this is a this is a, I think, a relic, if you like, from a Taylor Swift concert that my daughter decided that she wanted to create a bracelet for. She gave it to me when I came away. So I promised that I would wear it and try not to lose it while I was out here.

The future King isn’t the only royal to have been spotted wearing a friendship bracelet, according to Mirror. Prince George wore one in his 11th birthday portrait, and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh wore one during the Olympics. Even King Charles has worn one—he sported it during the State Opening of Parliament.
