The royal couple, who are already parents to Sienna Elizabeth, and Beatrice’s bonus child Wolfie, announced the birth of their baby daughter who was born on 22 January 2025. As per reports, she was born prematurely.
Indeed, in December Beatrice was advised not to travel long distance as she had plans to celebrate Christmas with her in-laws in Italy. It is understood that doctors warned the parents about a possible premature arrival. The 36-year-old changed plans last minute and attended the royal Christmas celebration instead.
That being said, the Palace has confirmed that both the baby and mother are doing well.
A new addition to the Royal Family

Her Royal Highness and her daughter are healthy and doing well, and the family are enjoying spending time together with Athena’s older siblings, Wolfie and Sienna.
Beatrice and Edoardo have chosen the name Athena Elizabeth Rose for their daughter, a heartfelt tribute to Beatrice’s late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, reports People.
The proud father, grandmother Sarah Ferguson, and aunt Princess Eugenie, also shared the happy news online with their fans and followers.
The royal line of succession altered with a new royal baby
According to The Sun, Athena’s birth has changed the royal line of succession, and it especially impacts aunt Eugenie.
Currently, Princess Beatrice retains her position as ninth in line to the throne, her first daughter Sienna Elizabeth is tenth in line, and Princess Eugenie is eleventh, as per the royal website. Now, after the birth of Athena, Eugenie has moved down to twelfth place. Meaning, Athena is eleventh in line to the British throne.
Despite being in line of succession, Athena, like her older sister Sienna, will not receive a royal title. This is because Beatrice, being the granddaughter of the late Queen through the female line, does not pass on royal titles to her children. However, she will inherit a title from her father’s side.
Edoardo is of Italian nobility and he is heir to the Mapelli Mozzi family's noble title of count. His dad, Count Allessandro Mapelli Mozzi said:
Edoardo is the only male descendant taking the family into the next generation.
He is a count, his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna.
As an Italian count, his children also inherit a count and countess title. Baby Athena will be therefore be a nobile donna, just like her sister.
