Marrying into the Royal Family definitely comes with a long set of rules, but also many perks—not to mention the added fortune.

But did you know that Queen Camilla was wealthy long before her marriage to King Charles?

Queen Camilla's personal fortune

Before becoming an official member of the Firm, Queen Camilla had already accumulated a vast personal fortune. According to Celebrity Net Worth, she is currently estimated to be worth at least £3.8 million, separately from King Charles. The King's net worth dwarfs hers, as he is estimated to earn about £10 million every year.

However, her fortune includes a massive sum of money that she received before she joined the Royal Family— a£500k inheritance from her grandparents. Queen Camilla may not have been royalty, but she did come from wealth as both her parents belonged to big aristocratic families.

She bought her £850k mansion after her divorce

Queen Camilla also owns a lavish property, one that she bought before her marrying King Charles.

Indeed, she used the money she received from her divorce to Andrew Parker Bowles in 1996 to buy Ray Mill House, a 19th-century Grade-II listed property in Reybridge, Wiltshire. She purchased the countryside mansion for a staggering £850k.

She reportedly hosted her daughter Laura's wedding there in 2006. Joan Gair, an interior design expert, told the Express that Ray Mill House is the place where the Queen Consort feels most 'at home', and most comfortable. She explained:

Queen Camilla's own home, Ray Mill House in Wiltshire, is likely to be her favourite residence.

The expert also added:

It's a home she chose to buy and a place where she spends time with family away from public life. So, it's a more personal space and one she has more freedom to decorate to her tastes.

The home is very close to Queen Camilla's heart, as it is a remnant of her life before she became a member of the Royal Family. An anonymous source told the Telegraph:

The Queen Consort has spent most of her life as a private citizen—so she understands the meaning of shutting your front door and having a place to yourself.

It is also the only place when she does not have to be the Queen, and she can be Camilla in peace, leading a somewhat normal life. The source went on:

Ray Mill is the only place where she can literally and metaphorically kick off her shoes and spend time with family and friends in a really informal setting. It’s an escape from royal life and it will be treasured even more greatly now.
