Queen Camilla is making history
It has been announced that Queen Camilla will be crowned with Queen Mary’s Crown. The reason this decision is making history is because it is the first time that a crown is being reused for a coronation. Normally they would have a new one made for the Queen Consort.
Buckingham Palace said that the decision was made ‘in the interests of sustainability and efficiency’ which reflects King Charles and Queen Camilla’s beliefs. However, the Queen Consort will keep some traditions by making the crown her own:
In keeping with the longstanding tradition that the insertion of jewels is unique to the occasion, and reflects the Consort’s individual style.

Queen Camilla has decided to pay tribute to her late mother-in-law on the coronation day by adding jewels from her collection.
Indeed the Queen Consort has decided to add the Cullinan III, IV and V diamonds to Queen Mary’s Crown. Queen Elizabeth often wore the Cullinan III and the Cullinan IV diamonds together as a brooch, which are estimated to be worth around £50 million.
Moreover, four of the crown’s arches will be removed to give it a new look. Finally, the crown won’t feature the controversial Koh-i-Noor diamond or its replica.
Queen Mary’s Crown has been removed from the Tower of London to undergo modifications.
