Now, a new explosive revelation about the long-serving British monarch has come to light. According to a report by The Daily Mail, the Queen was once almost nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.

She allegedly rejected a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize

Indeed, as per Daily Mail and the German magazines Stern and ntv, there were whispers that Queen was originally to be honoured for her commitment to the Commonwealth - the union of states and territories of the former British Empire. To this end, the Nobel Peace Prize committee had repeatedly approached the British government to ask how the Queen could be nominated.

Queen Elizabeth II was therefore informed of the proposal, which is reportedly not customary for such an award. For the monarch, however, an award was apparently not desirable. An unnamed senior courtier claims that she did not want the honour, and that her response to the request was simply:

Thanks, but no thanks.

The calls for Queen Elizabeth to be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize grew significantly in 2018. According to some high-ranking politicians, she was long overdue for an award.

Over 60 years, if the Queen's determined diplomacy in keeping the Commonwealth alive and functioning - which is a model of how a multitude of nations around the world can police themselves - doesn't qualify her for a Nobel prize, it is difficult to think what more anyone can do?

This was the assessment of former Labour MP Frank Field. Historian Ashley Jackson also praised Queen Elizabeth's 'soft power', with which she had made a significant contribution to promoting the diversity and independence of the Commonwealth states.
