Elizabeth I’s ghost
952-year-old Windsor Castle is subjected to more than 25 reported sightings of Royal ghosts and spirits. According to Mirror, there have been horror stories from hobbling ghosts to saluting soldiers and even stolen bones at the castle.
Allegedly, Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret also claimed that they witnessed paranormal activity in the castle. This was then translated to be an apparition of her namesake Elizabeth I. As such, one cannot live alone in this castle, even if they’re alone.
Where and who?
These phantom sightings are rumoured to occur so frequently that one can now tell which late monarch could be spotted at which location of the house. For instance, the mad and eccentric King George III is spotted in the room below the library.
This comes as, toward the end of his reign, King George III spent more and more time confined in this room. And so even his apparition is described as ‘looking longingly out of the window’ by the witnesses who have encountered him.
Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth I's favourite place to be spotted is - in the library. It is believed:
[The Queen’s] footsteps can be heard on the bare floorboards before her striking presence appears.
Apart from these sightings of King George III’s ghost in the bedroom and King Henry VIII ‘hobbling’ ghost in the deanery cloisters are also a common sight in Windsor Castle.
