Secret organisation
Born on October 9, 1935, the Duke of Kent’s most famous association is Freemasons. Prince Edward was educated at Ludgrove Prep School, Eton College, and then at the Le Rosey Institute in Switzerland before embarking on a 20-year military career. Since his induction into the organisation in 1963, he has risen through the ranks. He became Grand Master in 1967, and in 2013, he celebrated 50 years as a Freemason.
Describing Freemasonry – a secret society spread by the advancement of the British Empire - Britannica.com says:
Freemasonry, the teachings and practices of the fraternal (men-only) order of Free and Accepted Masons, the largest worldwide secret society—an oath-bound society, often devoted to fellowship, moral discipline, and mutual assistance, that conceals at least some of its rituals, customs, or activities from the public.
Religious Scandal
Mirror confirms that the biggest scandal of the Duke’s life was when his wife Katharine Worsley – Duchess of Kent – made headlines with her change of religious path. She converted to Roman Catholicism in 1994, making it a significant move for a member of the Royal Family to do so.
Catholics are forbidden from being in line to the throne according to the constraints of the Succession to the Crown Act 2013. The Duchess’ move did not affect the Duke, however, members of his immediate family were directly impacted as they lost their place in the line of succession.
