First royal after 60 years
According to Mike Tindall, Lucas was born on Princess Anne’s estate of Gatcombe Park in Gloucestershire. My London reported he was the first royal to be born at home in 60 years. The last royal who gave birth to a child at home was Queen Elizabeth II’s sister Princess Margaret.
The Queen’s sister had Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones, now Lady Sarah Chatto, at home in Kensington Palace in May 1964. Mike said that Lucas was born in a ‘rapid’ process. He said on the show:
As we got our stuff to go to the hospital, she got out of the bath, she could barely stand, she was shaking. The midwife was like ‘she’s not making the hospital’.
She was like ‘you don’t want to be delivering in the car’. (I went) into the gym (and got) two gym mats (to put) down in the bathroom.
And that’s where Zara Tindall gave birth to Queen Elizabeth’s youngest great-grandson.
Mike was hurt too
The former Rugby player also added that his wife’s labour pains were so intense and great that she almost killed him. He joked about it on the show and said:
(Zara) was, it was fast though, from that moment. She almost choked me to death. You can’t say anything can you? ‘Can you let go, you’re really hurting me?’
